Green Soda ash or Soda ash known as Sodium Carbonate is a critical component used in various industries.
Green ammonia, a derivative or byproduct of green hydrogen, is produced utilizing renewable energy sources, resulting in a significantly reduced, very low carbon footprint. It serves as an environmentally sustainable alternative to traditional ammonia (Grey ammonia).
Tuticorin Alkali Chemicals and Fertilizers Limited (TFL), situated in Tuticorin, Tamilnadu, is engaged in the production of all varieties of Soda Ash and concurrently manufactures Ammonium Chloride Fertiliser. The primary raw materials utilized in their processes include Ammonia, Carbon Dioxide, captured from the flue gas of the boiler and common Salt (Sodium Chloride) that is procured locally.
While it’s still under discussion and not ready across Grey Ammonia consuming industries, Green ammonia has been utilized for the first time in this industry, by TFL, who is recognized globally as one of the leading manufacturers of Soda Ash.
The green ammonia is imported from Egypt in the form of green ammonia containers via the VOC Port. This is used to manufacture its near-zero soda ash, also referred to as Green soda ash, on an experimental basis.
In addition to green ammonia, to manufacture eco-friendly green soda ash, TFL established a CO2 Recovery Plant. This plant captures carbon emitted from the coal that is utilized as fuel in its boiler for generating steam. This captured carbon is then transformed into biomass fuel, effectively eliminating the use of fossil fuels and thereby achieving a carbon neutral manufacturing process.
